Rema Namakula, also known as Rema, is a Ugandan female recording artist.

Background and Education

• Rema was born on 24 April 1991 at Lubaga Hospital to the late Hamida Nabbosa and the late Mukiibi Ssemakula. She is the youngest in her family.
• For her elementary education, she attended Kitante Primary School. She pursued her O-Level and A-Level studies at Saint Balikudembe Senior Secondary School before enrolling at Kyambogo University.

Career

• During her Senior 6 vacation, Rema started singing karaoke and later became a backing vocalist for Ugandan female musician Halima Namakula, her mentor.
• She continued her music career by joining Ugandan musician Bebe Cool's recording group as a backup artist. After Bebe Cool discovered she was planning to launch a solo album in 2013, she was let go, prompting her solo career.
• In 2013, she released "Oli Wange," written by Nince Henry, which contributed to her rise in Uganda's music scene.
• In 2016, Rema Namakula was chosen to represent Uganda at the fourth season of Coke Studio Africa 2016 alongside other Ugandan artists like Lydia Jazmine, Eddy Kenzo, Radio and Weasel. Notable international participants in this exclusive event included 2Baba (2Face Idibia) from Nigeria and Trey Songz from the United States.

Family

• Over time, Rema Namakula entered a romantic relationship with fellow Ugandan recording artist Eddy Kenzo.
• On 26 December 2014, she gave birth to a daughter at Paragon Hospital in Bugoloobi, Kampala. Kenzo, who has another daughter from a previous relationship named Maya Musuuza, acknowledged paternity and named the newborn Aamaal Musuuza.
